The game

One key per answer. One more round?

Retro Trivia is made for the gap between a few messages and your next chat. Choose 5, 8, 12 or 20 questions from a bank of 251. Each question is a card with lettered podium keys and a row of marquee bulbs keeping the round’s score; one key makes your choice, and a lit verdict tells you how you did.

Choose your round

Five questions for a quick break, or settle in for twenty. Every launch draws a fresh mix of questions.

Know your roots

Questions explore the BBS world and retro computing. There is no character to train and no equipment to buy: bring what you remember.

Earn the finale

Your score earns a rank and an animated finish, from lights out to a perfect-round jackpot. Scores are not saved between visits.

At the keyboard

Inside Retro Trivia

Test your BBS and retro computing knowledge in a quick solo quiz. Pick a round length, answer with a single key and see what rank you earn.

Retro Trivia — Three in a row
Retro Trivia — Three in a row
Three right answers into a real, randomly drawn five-question round: the last verdict above a fresh card, three lit bulbs in the card’s edge and the fourth question waiting for one key.

A finish to match your score

A perfect round hits the jackpot; half or better earns applause. Below half, the lights go out. These are the game’s recorded finales.

Retro Trivia: jackpot
A perfect round: every bulb flashes, JACKPOT! lights up letter by letter, and confetti falls.

Recorded in an 80 × 24 terminal, at the game’s own timing. Motion pauses when the player leaves the screen. With reduced motion enabled, use Play to start; without JavaScript the still image remains visible.

Play on NetBBS

Open Doors and choose Retro Trivia, then pick a round length. Every visit begins again, with no saved character or persistent standings.

The game is bundled with NetBBS. A node’s SysOp decides which doors callers can access. Connect using Telnet, SSH or the browser terminal, then open the door menu.

For installation and supported host configurations, read the door setup guide or the game’s own README.
